3 types of pictures to take after a truck accident

On Behalf of | Jun 23, 2025 | Truck Accidents |

If you are involved in a truck accident, after contacting the authorities and focusing on medical care for anyone who has been injured, one of the most important things you can do is to take photographs. You may need to sue the other driver–or the trucking company–to seek compensation, or you may need to file an insurance claim. Pictures can help to support your case either way.

But, what types of pictures should you take at this time? Below are three examples.

1. Pictures of the crash scene

Start by either taking a video or wide shots of the entire crash scene. You want to show where the cars are situated on the road, and you may also catch other important features like stop signs, traffic lights, speed limit signs and much more. You’re essentially just showing how the accident occurred, which helps to prove fault.

2. Pictures of the damage itself

Next, it can be beneficial to take pictures of the damage to your vehicle or any injuries that you or others may have suffered. Once the fault has been established, you need to show exactly what damage the crash caused. You may then be able to seek financial compensation for things like medical bills, property damage, lost wages and more.

3. Pictures of identifying information

Finally, remember that you’re supposed to exchange insurance information and contact information with the other driver. You can take a picture of their license plate, their commercial driver’s license and other such documentation. This, along with the police report, can be important if you do have to go to court.

Taking photos is just one important step at this time, so be sure you understand all of your legal options after a truck accident.
